Competition isn’t for everyone and at Double Dose Muay Thai, we do not expect any of our members to compete. In fact, as little as 5% of the student body are on the Competition Team.
However, for those who wish to take their Muay Thai journey to the big stage, Double Dose Australia has a specialised program dedicated to preparing students during their transition into becoming a fighter.
Nobody who ever gave his best, regretted it.
- George Halas
At Double Dose Australia, we limit the competition team to a small group, allowing our coaches to dedicate the proper time and energy to ensure their success.
Our head coaches are still actively fighting themselves, and understand the roller coaster of physical and mental emotions that a fighter will experience throughout their journey.
At the end of the day, it all comes back to the core principles of Double Dose Australia;
Family. Teamwork. Tradition. Dedication. Respect
and for those who wish to compete, this is no different.
One of the unique services we are able to offer at Double Dose, is qualified mindset training. When you are preparing for a competition one of the biggest aspects of your ability to perform is being in the right mindset. Self belief, confidence and staying relaxed under pressure can be extremely difficult when you are taking on a new challenge like fighting. Nakia, one of the owners of DDMT is a qualified NLP Practitioner and personally walks Team DDMT fighters through mind coaching to ensure their head is in the game come fight day. This is all including with the competition team training.
At Double Dose, the 'team' mentality is very important. All our intermediate and advanced students are expected to play an important role in the lead up to our fighters competitions.
Whether its as a running buddy, sparring partner or someone to talk to, our members unite together like a family and build each other up no matter what your skill or fitness level is.
We push each other to put in the work, and encourage each other to become the best versions of ourselves, in and outside of the gym. Fighting might be an individual sport, but a solid team makes all the difference.
You don't have to fight to measure your progress in our gym. In our programs, the classes are tiered so that you move from beginner through to advanced.
Grading and testing throughout allows us to continually evaluate your progression and you get recognition for your hard work.
At the advanced level, you can still train like a fighter, or even participate in our fun entry level interclubs. Whatever your personal goals are, we will help you get there!
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AS A FIGHTER?
Competition Fight Team classes are based on many traditional Thai principles, and run for 1.5-2 hours per day, 5 days a week. When a student commits to the idea of competing, they will have the opportunity to trial our competition team training, and learn what it takes to prepare for a real fight. Our student’s safety and well-being is most important to us, and therefore it will take some time before the coaches will submit a student’s name for their first fight.
When preparing for a fight, the student will train through a 6 to 8 week ‘fight camp’ which requires total dedication and focus. The training is difficult, and will push the fighter to new limits. Throughout this camp, we focus on pad work, sparring, fighting styles, techniques, mental preparation and diet. While it is certainly one of the most challenging experiences, it is also very thrilling, and highly addictive.
The coaches at Double Dose will ensure the young fighter completely understands the competition process and most importantly is equipped with the mindset it takes to step over those ropes.
